Admission Guide

  • APPLICATION INFORMATION

    Songwon University(SU) houses 5schools and 20departments. A variety of scholarship is available for international students. SU offers Double Degree program, changing major system, and other educational program. Currently, there are over 4,500 undergraduate students and 110 professors in Campus. Around 50 foreign students study annually at SU in various academic programs.

    • Eligibility Requirements
      • Applicants must have received at least 2 years of education (elementary, junior high, or high school) outside of Korea.
      • Applicants must have completed high school in order to be considered for admission.
      • Applicants must hold foreign nationalities and also have parents who are foreign citizens to be considered for international student admission.
      • Applicants who are Korean citizens with permanent residence overseas are also eligible to apply.

    • Requirements for Admission
      • Applicants will be selected by the University’s Special Screening and Review Board only on the basis of the applicant’s personal papers.

        ※ Evaluation to be based on: personal statement, high school or college academic records, academic competence, and financial capability

      • A candidate whose academic competence based on her career papers falls short of the criteria will not be selected regardless of the available quota.
    • Requirements for Admission
      • Fully accomplished Application Form (using the University Form)

        Two extra portrait shots, the same as the one that must be attached on the Application Form, must be submitted.

      • High school diploma (or Certificate of Expectation of Graduation)

        Those who will submit a Certificate of Expectation of Graduation must submit their diploma before the new semester begins, or their acceptance will become null and void.

      • High school academic record
      • Identification papers for the applicant and her parents issued by the relevant government, proving the family relationship of the individuals concerned (E.g., Resident Family Register of China, Family Register of Japan, which corresponds to the Family Register of Korea, or any other paper that can prove that the applicant and her parents are foreigners)
      • Personal statement (using the University Form)
      • Letter of Recommendation from the applicant’s high school principal (using the University Form)
      • Papers that can prove the applicant’s financial capability (In principle, the financial guarantor should be the applicant’s father or mother.)
        • - Affidavit of Support (using the University Form)
        • - Statement of Balance of the financial guarantor showing a deposit of US$10,000 or more (for at least one month)
          (The amount of the deposit should be maintained until the applicant’s registration date for possible verification.)
        • - Certificate of Employment or Business Registration Certificate of the financial guarantor
        • - Certificate of Tax Payment of the financial guarantor

          Of the papers listed above, papers (2), (3) and (4) should be translated into either Korean or English and should be notarized. Other papers that are not in Korean or English should be translated into English or Korean before they are submitted.

          Additional papers could be requested as needed.

          For those who do not need a Confirmation of Visa Issuance, some of the papers listed above may not be needed.

    • Things to Know
      • The Application Form cannot be submitted to more than one department.
      • Persons with dual nationalities or no nationality shall not be recognized as foreigners.
      • When the names used in the career papers are different, a certificate from the court of the relevant country proving the identity of the applicant should be appended.
      • If it is discovered that any of the Forms submitted is forged or has been changed illegally, the acceptance will be cancelled.
      • Matters that are not set forth in these Guidelines shall be determined and implemented by the University.
      • Unless requested by the applicant, the submitted papers shall not be returned.

    • Competence Test for Koreans and Korean Classes (to be Opened)
      • Foreigners who are accepted should take the Competence Test for Koreans that is conducted jointly by the Korean Embassy or the Korean Consulate and the Korea Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation in Korea.
      • Those whose grade in the test correspond to the sixth grade or lower should take more than one Korean language class each semester among those provided by the University. In such cases, the foreign student cannot take more than 9 credits of regular courses per semester.
      • Those whose grade in the test correspond to the sixth grade or lower should take the Competence Test for Koreans that is given by the University each semester. Following are the numbers of credit hours allowed per semester based on the test score (Grades A, B and C) and the Korean classes to take.

    • Scholarships by Department
      • All foreign students will be given a scholarship fee corresponding to a half of the applicable tuition fee, except those whose grade point average in the previous semester is below 2.0.
      • Scholarships for foreign students are subject to change with revisions in University regulations or scholarship regulations.
